Celebrate Martin Luther King Jr.

Kindergarten learned all about MLK Jr. today! We started with a non-fiction text over MLK Jr., followed with a Learn 360 video "Martin's Big Words", and finished with a Jack Hartman song celebrating MLK!! It turned out to be a great lesson but some of my little ones were so sad afterwards - they said it just made them sad that people used to be mean ( it melted my heart)! We made a little MLK project by water coloring a MLK and cutting and pasting : MLK Jr. had big dreams! All in all a great little history lesson!
**** Side note: I know how to indent paragraphs but his crazy Blogger app won't let me!!! If someone in tech land knows how to do it on this app, please inform me! ;)

Hip, Hip Hooray For 100 Days!!

Hooray for the 100th day! Today was packed with 100th day fun! We wrote to 100, tallied to 100, painted 100 dots, and cut and pasted 100 cookies to a jar- these great ideas came from my favorite TPT lady Julie Lee!! Students also showed their projects- 100 things for 100 days! We finished the day up with cupcakes, Emily's 100 Days Video by Rosemary Wells, and cute little treat I put together for the kiddos ( thanks to Pinterest)!!! The last picture is from my daughter's Pre-K class and just too cute not to share! So happy my daughter has such a great teacher!! Enjoy the pics and just think only 80 days left ;)

Kindergarten is snow fun!

Just a few pics to finish up our snowman unit! My great parents sent in bags of marshmallows for our snowman project! The kiddos loved it! I gave them a sentence starter: A snowman is... Students finished the sentences and we made our marshmallow snowmen! I'm pretty sure their favorite part was the yummy snack that followed;)!
We finished up with some Word family study and syllable fun- we used party blowers to blow out( instead of clapping out) our syllables! It was lots of fun! Both of these great ideas came from Julie Lee's blog( teacher friends check her out on TPT)!
On a math note- it's all about decomposing numbers! We are gearing up for adding with our domino parking lot game! Add the numbers on the dominos and park them in place! First group done at the table wins!

Snowman Fun

We had "snow" much fun in Kindergarten this week integrating snowmen into our Reading Unit! The kids had a blast; however, Mother Nature could have been more accommodating by at least delivering winter weather ;) !! We are actually going to finish this unit up next week but I'm holding to my resolution and posting a few pics from the week! A great big THANKS to all my parents for sending in marshmallows for our art project!
**** Side Note- I can't seem to figure out how to comment on my photos with my blogger app!! So, any advice is appreciated!! Onto the pics!!
First two pics are our writing project! It turned out great- they filled in the missing words describing how to build a snowman!! I got this great idea from Deanna Jump- but tweaked it a bit!!
Next, are some great reads from our unit! I used Deanna Jump's pocket chart to start out with and then some of my favorite reads! I absolutely love the book "Snowmen At Night"! Followed with a little snowman poetry- we highlighted the sight words from the poem! I'm not sure why highlighters are so fun but the kids were dying to use them ;)!
Last, a few ideas from Julie Lee ( I love her units on TPT)!! A little snowman beginning sounds and some intro adding and subtracting games with snowman!! You'll have to wait until next week to spy our marshmallow project!!
