Batty About Bats

I love bats!!  They are amazing creatures and what better time to study bats- the month of October ( even though this post is November..oops)!  We had a great bat study in our classroom.  Starting off with the reading of Stellaluna.  I just love the book and I always do the Reading Rainbow Series that goes with it.  The rest of the unit is based around non-fiction readers.  The kids love it of because of the graphic pictures ( I just love here all the ugh, gross, wow, comments I get from the students)!!  Here is a look at our Bat Projects from our unit of study!!

These pictures are the projects.  Students cut out and paste bat pictures to a poster board.  They label the top Bats and they do a show and tell with their projects.  They have to tell the class 2 facts they learned about bats and who helped them with their project!  Kids are sooo funny..most said that they did it all by themselves- no help from anyone!!  LOL!

I have some pretty cute kiddos this year!!  Just check out these little sweeties!!
Our Writing Project!!  I was so proud of my students!!  Students sponge painted the top half with orange paint and glued bat cut outs onto their writing.  Then they wrote: Bats are black. They fly at night.  We have really been working on handwriting and they did great!!

This is just an up-close look at the top of the writing project.

This was the display in the hall.  The top are Hand print Bats that I did with each student!  Tons of fun from this Science Unit!!

Hodge Podge Post- Sorry!!

Well, it has been too long!!  So, I'm going to try and shove a couple of months of teaching into one blog post!!   I am telling myself that I will do better- it's kinda like the laundry at my house- I try but it usually just piles up ( real life people)!!  However, we have been working really hard in Kindergarten this year and I truly have a great bunch of kids.  I am going to cram some pics in here and really, really, try to post as we finish our units of study.  I really just can't believe we are in November- time flies when you are having fun!!  Get ready for a long post because there is lots of catching up to do!!

The first few pics are during our Color Words Unit. The students made this cute Bubble Gum Project and wrote the color word at the bottom:  I can blow a _______ bubble!  They added the color word that matched their balloon.  We also tried to blow bubble and graphed the results!

I try really hard to do an art project every Friday over the letter we are studying that week!  This happened to be from the letter O- we glued Cheerios to make capital and lowercase O's!

Grandparent's Day!  I only posted a few pics here.  Kindergarten does a big Grandparent's Day Program.  They sing Nursery Rhymes for the Grandparents, present them with a craft, and have a little snack.
Here are 3 great pics from that program!!

More color word fun!  Water coloring color words and practicing writing color words with sidewalk chalk!

Apples!!  We did tons of activities for our Apple Unit.  However, I'm only posting a few pics.  We read some great books: Apple Farmer Annie, How To Make Apple Pie and See The World, The Apple Pie Tree.  We measured and recorded the size of apples, made AB patterns with apples, painted our own apple trees, tasted and graphed our favorite apples, made Johnny Appleseed, and made homemade applesauce in our room!!  We've been busy in Kindergarten!!

Teddy Bear Picnic

Our Teddy Bear Picnic was a hit!!  The kids had a great time and so did all the mom and dads!!  It's so nice to have such great parent involvement :)!  My kiddos also worked very hard this week ( and last) learning all about bears, color words, ABAB patterns, sorting, and beginning ABC's! Hope you enjoy the pics from this week and last! Sorry I didn't get last weeks pics  posted- for some reason I've been exhausted ;)!

Great reads from this week: Jamberry (love the rhyming and it ties into color words so well, Little Bear, Brown Bear, Corduroy ( we charted character, setting, problem, and solution)

Every afternoon my kiddos would put their bears in their cubbies and every morning the bears would be somewhere else!! It was such a mystery!!

So, Friday morning our bears totally disappeared.  So, we had to Go On A Bear Hunt!!  The students had to act out the story as they hunted and asked each teacher on our hall: Have you seen our bears?  Here is Ms. Lynsey answering our bear question! It was too much fun!

After much searching we found them in the nurses station!  Below all of kindergarten with their precious bears.

Family fun photos of our Teddy Bear Picnic!!

Here are our bears we made from paper plates and Styrofoam cups.  It was messy but fun.  Also, our ABAB patterns.  Below is our finished display!

Here are some items from last week.  Our sticker names!
